• The Motorola Droid 2 is the second release in the ‘Droid’ family of Google Android-based smartphones from Motorola and the fourth to be released under the ‘Droid’ brand after the original Motorola Droid and HTC’s Droid Incredible and the Droid X.  The original Droid is credited with kick-starting the demand for smartphones featuring the Android operating system and saved Motorola’s smartphone division. It’s design, simple user interface and a name modeled after the robots in the Star Wars movies gave it a unique appeal to buyers who were looking for something other than an iPhone or a Blackberry.

The Droid 2 looks to take off where the last Droid left off.  It features a similar sliding QWERTY keyboard and it continues to use the Swype software system for virtual on-screen keyboard input.  The Droid 2 is the first smartphone to be pre-installed with the new Android 2.2 OS, or “Froyo”, as well as having Flash Mobile 10.1 installed.  Other features include a 3.7 inch touchscreen display, a 5MP camera and the ability to create your own WiFi hotspot for on-the-go web surfing.

Motorola is hoping the Droid 2 continues the great success they had with the release of the original Droid.  Many industry analysts consider the Droid as the device that re-established the profile of Motorola in the handset industry.
